In addition to EYFS , EyLog supports additional early years frameworks enabling you to focus and plan towards a well-rounded learning and development of Children.


The frameworks available are: Leuven Scales of Emotional Well-being and Involvement, Characteristics of Effective Learning (CoEL), Every Child a talker (ECaT), British Values, Phonics, Schemas, Montessori and Early Years Development Journal (EYDJ). 


You can customise the frameworks visible on the tablets, depending on your nursery’s requirements, easily from the Manager Dashboard. If enabled, these frameworks will be available from the observation screen to complete to complete if relevant to your observation. 


All the frameworks available on eyLog have a ‘Show Current Assessment’ button to help you make a judgement of the child’s overall progress. This can be found at the top of the framework screen on the right.


Taking the information from published observations, the number in the green circle indicates the number of times the statement has previously been accessed for a child. Note: This feature will not be available in group observations.



Once selected, the button changes to ‘Hide Current Assessment’ to turn this feature off.


Early Learning Goals (ELG)

Early Learning Goals (ELG) is used to indicate a level of achievement beyond the 40-60+ age band. ELG are is an optional feature and can be activated easily at any time from the Managers Dashboard.


If you are using ELG, these statements along with their standard assessment levels of Emerging/Expecting/Exceeding are available in the EYFS framework. Select an Area, then an Aspect and then select ELG from the age bands. Tick the relevant statements by clicking on the checkbox at the end.



 

Note: You cannot select an ELG statement if another age band in the same aspect has been assessed. ELGs can only be accessed once a statement is selected. ELGs cannot be accessed.


Only one ELG statement per aspect can be selected per observation. Once you have selected a statement, choose the relevant assessment level the child is displaying from the options available at the top. Note: If the first ELG statement is selected you can choose from Emerging or Expecting, if you have chosen the second ELG statement Exceeding will automatically be selected.


Click ‘Done’ and the ELG statement will be displayed in the ‘EYFS Assessment’ box.


Leuven Scales of Emotional Well-being and Involvement


Leuven Scales is used to observe engagement and emotion within the nursery as varying levels of Involvement and Well-being of a child.


Select ‘Involvement / Well Being’ from the framework bar at the top of the observation screen. Then choose the level displayed by the child in this observation by tapping on the appropriate statement. 


 

Click ‘Done’ and the level number you selected will be displayed in the framework bar next to ‘Involvement’ or ‘Well Being’ scale.


Characteristics of Effective Learning (CoEL)


Characteristics of Effective Learning (CoEL) is commonly used alongside EYFS and supports practitioner in planning and guiding children’s activities, based on the different ways that children learn.


Select ‘CoEL’ from the framework bar at the top of the observation screen. Select one or more statements from any of the three areas by clicking on the checkbox at the end.



 

Click ‘Done’ and the number of statements selected with be displayed in the framework bar next to ‘CoEL’.


Every Child a Talker (ECaT)


Every Child a Talker (ECaT) is used to support the development of the language and communication of children from birth to five years of age.


Select ‘ECaT’ from the framework bar at the top of the observation screen. By selecting an Area, then an Age Band, the applicable Statements will show.


Under the Age Band the child falls into tick the relevant statements by clicking on the checkbox at the end, then choose the relevant assessment level the child is displaying. An Age Band can also be accessed without selecting any statements to show an overall summary of the child’s development.



Click ‘Done’ and the number of statements selected with be displayed in the framework bar next to ‘ECaT’.


British Values

British Values is used to observe the fundamental values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs.


Select ‘British Values’ from the framework bar at the top of the observation screen. Select one or more statements from any of the four areas by clicking on the checkbox at the end.




Click ‘Done’ and the number of statements selected with be displayed in the framework bar next to ‘British Values’.


Phonics


Phonics is used to record children’s development against Phase 1 sounds and letters, it will support linking sounds and letters in the order in which they occur in words, and naming and sounding the letters of the alphabet.


Select ‘Phonics’ from the framework bar at the top of the observation screen. Select one or more statements from any of the seven areas by clicking on the checkbox at the end.



Click ‘Done’ and the number of statements selected with be displayed in the framework bar next to ‘Phonics’.


Schemas


Schemas is used to observe patterns of repeated behaviour which allow children to explore and express developing ideas and thoughts through their play and exploration.


Select ‘Schemas’ from the framework bar at the top of the observation screen. Select one or more statements by clicking on the checkbox at the end.


Click ‘Done’ and the number of statements selected with be displayed in the framework bar next to ‘Schemas’.


Montessori


The Montessori framework is based on experiential learning where children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and the teacher offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process.


For nurseries and schools following a Montessori education, eyLog has a fully comprehensive Montessori framework covering birth to six years for the six key Areas of Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Science and Cultural. Note: If children at your setting start from three years old you can remove the 0-3 years framework easily at any time via the Managers Dashboard.


 Select ‘Montessori’ from the framework bar at the top of the observation screen. Choose an Age Band at the top of the screen to see the relevant Areas and Activity Groups. Note: If you have removed the 0-3 years framework this option will not be visible on your screen


 


By selecting an Area, then an Activity Group, the applicable Activities and Sub Activities will show. Select the Activity or Sub Activity the child has demonstrated by clicking on the checkbox at the end.

 Then click on the ‘Assessment?’ button to choose the assessment level the child is displaying. Note: The assessment level names can be customised easily at any time via the Managers Dashboard.


Note: Activities can be assessed in both Age Band if required.

Click ‘Done’ and the number of statements selected with be displayed in the framework bar next to ‘Montessori’.


Early Years Developmental Journal (EYDJ)

Early Years Developmental Journal (EYDJ) is based on the EYFS framework but is used for children that are unlikely to progress at the same rate, for example if they have a physical or learning disability.


Select ‘EYDJ’ from the framework bar at the top of the observation screen. By selecting an Area, then a Step, the applicable Statements will show.


Under the Step the child falls into tick the relevant statements by clicking on the checkbox at the end. Then click on the ‘Assessment?’ button to choose the level the child is displaying.



Once the child has achieved all the goals in a Step, the Step can be marked as ‘Achieved’ at the top of the statement. Note: A Step can also be accessed as without selecting any statements to show an overall summary of the child’s development.



Click ‘Done’ and the number of statements selected with be displayed in the framework bar next to ‘EYDJ’.


On the observation screen, the frameworks you have added an assessment to will be indicated by a green circle containing a number.



Once the observation is published, the selected assessments are shown in the child’s learning journey underneath the media and text of the observation.






Note: Similar to the EYFS framework, the selected exercises/assessments are shown in the child’s learning journey underneath the media and text entries for the relevant observation.
