Staff may also wish to do a group observation if more than one child involved in a particular activity, there are two ways to create this on eyLog:

Option One

Select all the children involved in the group observation by tapping on their profile, a tick will appear in the bottom right corner top of the child’s photograph, then click ‘New Observation’.

A pop up message will appear to confirm that you wish to create the observation for multiple children.

Click ‘Yes’ to continue.

Once the observation screen opens, the name of the first child will appear at the top of the screen with a green circle containing the total number of children selected.

Add any photos, video, audio and written observations relevant to all the selected children, as shown in the ‘Making an Observation’ document. If the observation is now complete, click on ‘Publish’ and then ‘OK’.

This will submit a copy of the observation to each of the children’s Learning Journeys.

If you wish to edit the observation later, click ‘Save as Draft’.

This will create multiple copies of the draft, one per child, so that individual assessments can then be made as well.

The draft observations can be retrieved by clicking the ‘Drafts List’ in the taskbar at the top of the Children List screen.

The observation can then be edited separately to record additional information such as EYFS links and Next Steps as appropriate to each individual child (as shown in ‘Making an Observation’ document).

Statements from additional frameworks can also be selected using the buttons in the taskbar at the top (as shown in ‘Linking Observations to Additional Frameworks’ document).

Once changes have been made to the observation, it can then be saved as a draft again or submitted to the child’s learning journey. Note: If a group observation has been previously saved as draft, this will need to be repeated for each child’s draft.

Example Two

Select a child and click ‘New Observation’.

Once the observation screen opens, click on the arrow next to child’s name in the top left corner. From here you can select additional children to be part of the observation by tapping on their profile. Then click ‘Done’.

Once you have selected multiple children, the name of the first child will appear at the top of the screen with a green circle containing the total number of children selected.

As above, add any photos, video, audio and written observations relevant to all the selected children. Then click ‘Publish’ to submit a copy of the observation to each of the children’s Learning Journeys or ‘Save as Draft’ if you wish to edit the observation later or add individual assessments for the children.

Note: This will need to be repeated for each child included in the group.
