In some instances staff may want to create a spontaneous observation when a child is doing something interesting but may not require a full assessment.

Choose a child and click ‘New Observation’.

In the taskbar at the top click on ‘Tags’ and choose ‘Spontaneous Observation’. This will grey out the ‘Evaluation’, ‘EYFS’, ‘Next Steps’ and ‘Additional Comments’ areas. Note: The Spontaneous Observation tag name can be customised from the Manager login so may appear as a different name here but will always be the top tag.

Complete the relevant observation areas as shown in ‘Making an Observation' document. If required, text can be added to the greyed-out areas by double clicking on the relevant box.

The observation can then be saved as a draft to be edited later or submitted to the child’s Learning Journey. Click on ‘Publish’ and then ‘Yes’

These observations will be tagged as a ‘Spontaneous Observation’ when viewed in the Learning Journey.

Note: These observations will show up as a ‘Spontaneous Observation’ when viewed in the Learning Journey.
